How Do I Know if My Air Ducts Need Cleaning?

Good indoor air quality is essential to a healthy home. When dust, mold, fungus, pet hair, debris, food and even small toys clog up the ductwork in your house, they can cause allergy symptoms such as headaches, sneezing and itchy eyes and force your equipment to work harder — raising your energy bills and the possibility of a breakdown as well.

You should also consider cleaning your ducts if:

  • You experience a musty or burning smell when you turn on the furnace for the first time
  • You have family members with allergies or asthma
  • You have pets, young children or several people living under one roof
  • You’ve recently moved into a new home or completed renovations
  •  A duct cleaning will help protect from dirt and dust being pulled into your new equipment

Cleaner Air in Under Three Hours

Duct cleaning is the process of removing dust and debris from the ductwork a home uses for its furnace or central air conditioning. We brush and blow air into your supply vents while a high-powered vacuum pulls the dislodged dust from the ducts. We perform this process on the hot and cold air return sides of your system.

Our air duct cleaning service typically takes between 90 minutes and 2.5 hours and can remove five to six pounds (3kg) of dirt depending on a home’s size. We run an 8-inch suction hose from our truck into your house and blow air into your individual supply vents at a rate of 25,000 cubic feet per minute.

After the dirt is removed, we use a 100% natural antibacterial spray to kill any bacteria, mould or fungal spores that may be living in your ducts.

Top Reasons Why You Need Air Duct and Furnace Cleaning Services

Addressing air quality in your home shouldn’t begin and end with your furnace’s air filter. Done properly by a qualified, professional Home Depot Installer, air duct and furnace cleaning is an important maintenance item for any home – and, in certain situations, should be done as soon as possible.

Renovations

Home renovations, whether big or small, invariably generate lots of dust and debris. Air supply and return vents should be sealed off prior to renovation work and the heating and cooling system turned off; however, this is not always feasible, particularly if you’re living in your home while renovations are taking place. However, if dust and debris gets into your vents, it can continue to circulate in your air and settle on surfaces throughout your entire home. This can, in turn, damage your HVAC equipment and affect your indoor air quality.

Excess dust

If you’re seeing excessive dust and debris collecting around your home’s air vents, or even coming out of them, you need your ducts cleaned. There’s almost certainly more in your home’s ductwork and HVAC equipment.

Infestations

If you’ve had problems with insect or animal infestations in your home, chances are good that they’ve left a filthy footprint inside your ductwork. It’s recommended that you schedule an air duct and furnace cleaning after any such infestations have been successfully addressed.

Mould

If you have experienced problems of excessive moisture or flooding in your home, our Installers can look for signs of mould in your ductwork. A thorough air duct and furnace cleaning can include a disinfectant treatment to remove some mould if you do have it. However, it may be a sign of a much larger problem that would need to be addressed by a mould removal specialist.
